Nigerian striker Adepoju shares update after rejoining PSL club

Nigerian-born Malawian striker Babatunde Adepoju has given an update on his first week in training with Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Venda Football Academy FC in South Africa.

The 30-year-old returned to the Motsepe Foundation Championship team last week after concluding his season-long loan spell with Malawi TNM Super League record champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.

Having completed the first week in training, the Flames forward shared the mood in the camp of the second-tier Motsepe Foundation Championship side. He spoke to Venda FC media.

“I am so happy to be back. The boys have received me well. The boys I knew and the new ones don’t know me, but with time in training sessions we will take it from there,” he said.

Ahead of the resumption of the PSL, Venda played a friendly against fellow PSL outfit Magesi FC on Monday.

When will Nigerian Adepoju like to feature for PSL side Venda FC?

Adepoju is expected to play when Venda face Upington City FC at Thohoyandou Stadium in Polokwane on January 24 2026. The next game for Venda will be against Casric Stars FC three days later.

The Nigerian arrived in Malawi in 2017 to sign for Masters Security FC, leading them to the Carlsberg Cup in 2018.

The towering forward went on to play for Wanderers in 2019, then jumped ship to rivals Bullets in 2021. He spent two seasons with Bullets before signing a two-year contract with Venda FC in 2023. He returned to the Blantyre-based team last season on loan.

The TNM Super League leading scorer is a cult hero at Bullets, having scored over 70 goals in over 100 appearances. Adepoju switched nationality to play for Malawi as he did not stand a chance of representing Nigeria.
The striker has achieved unparalleled success with the Malawi giants, winning two TNM Super League titles, FDH Cup and two Airtel Top 8 trophies.

Adepoju debuted for the Flames during a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against São Tomé and Príncipe in October. He is capped three times.
