Ignatius Osei Fosu, assistant coach of the Sudan national team, has revealed his administration for his boss James Kwesi Appiah.
Osei-Fosu, 38 , was roped into the Sudanese technical team by James Kwesi Appiah in September 2023 after stints with a number of Ghana Premier League clubs. The well spoken trainer has successfully helped the former Ghana coach in steering the war-hit Sudan to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Morocco.
In a group F that contained Ghana, Angola and Niger, Sudan finished in second on 8 points from six matches - five points behind the Palancas Negras of Angola.
Ignatius Osei Fosu said of Kwesi Appiah. “We have always been away because we don’t play our home games in Sudan,” he told Pan-Africa Football. "The good thing for us is that we have James Kwesi Appiah who has a lot of experience under his belt having coached Ghana.
“I have admired him so much. I like his style of coaching. Having to start a qualifier and finishing it in this manner is a huge responsibility," he added.
Sudan will be appearing in their 10th AFCON having won it once in 1970 on home soil. The qualification means a lot to the East African state that has been ravaged by upheaval and Osei Fosu opened up on what that means to the nationals.
“For me coaching has always been a pressure job, whether you like it it not. The pressure comes even more because it looks like in Sudan football is their only hope.
"So that’s where the pressure comes in because you always want to do well to give the people something to celebrate. We have qualified and I learnt people are still celebrating the country.”
Ignatius Osei Fosu’s coaching experience includes stints at Ghana Premier League clubs, Medeama SC and Dreams FC. He has previously handled former Ghana Premier League sides, King Faisal and Techiman Eleven Wonders before being appointed as the assistant coach with the Ghana U-17 national team, the Black Starlets.
