TS Galaxy coach Adnan Beganovic says the best is yet to come from Croatian attacker Damir Sovsic who stepped off the bench to score the winner in the 1-0 beating of Chippa United in South Africa on Saturday.

The 35-year-old intercepted a delivery from Chippa keeper Stanley Nwabali to chip the ball into the net in the 80th minute and seal the Betway Premiership win at Mbombela Stadium.

Beganovic has since explained that the best is yet to come from Sovsic, saying he was once so good even Serie A giants, Lazio, wanted to sign him 17 years ago.

“First of all, he is an unbelievable human being. He was the biggest talent in Europe when he was 17 or 18 years old. I know that Lazio from Italy wanted to buy him for five million euros,” he said.

The Galaxy boss said the former Dinamo Zagreb player has not had a big impact in the elite league of South Africa due to injuries, but he is now getting back in form.

“We were unlucky because he got injured three times. He is not on top of his game. Imagine when he reaches more fitness. He can be amazing for this league,” Beganovic added.

The Rockets trainer has since joined the growing chorus of coaches who are complaining about fixtures’ congestion in the Betway Premiership. “It is our fourth game [against Chippa] in 10 days. I know we need to change some players to refresh our team. However, we don’t have time to recover our team,” he said.

“We in February. It is tough and probably we are on our A game. I am so glad to have the opportunity to work with the guys. All credit goes to the guys; they believe in the team and ourselves. We don’t give up for the entire 90 minutes.”

The win over Chippa saw the Rockets climb into sixth place having gone 11 games undefeated under Beganovic. Chippa sit in 11th place.
