After three matches without a win, Kenyan Premier League side AFC Leopards secured their first victory of the FKF Premier League season following a 2-1 outcome against KCB at Ulinzi Sports Complex on Saturday.
Ingwe under coach Fred Ambani had failed to win their opening three matches against Sofapaka, Posta Rangers and Bandari. Their opener against Batoto ba Mungu had ended in a 1-1 draw, before they secured another 2-2 draw against Posta, and 0-0 outcome against the Dockers of Mombasa.
However, AFC Leopards were left a happy lot on Saturday after they secured maximum points from their matchday four fixture, which they dominated and deserved to win. Boniface Munyendo gave AFC Leopards the lead against the run of play, but it was short lived as the Bankers under coach Robert Matano levelled matters.
The goal did not kill AFC morale as Christopher Koloti scored what turned out to be the winner. The outcome pushed AFC Leopards a place above to seventh on the 18 team league table with six points.
Meanwhile, Kakamega Homeboyz secured their third win of the campaign after gunning down Ulinzi Stars 3-1. The win enabled the Kakamega-based outfit to move joint top on the log with 10 points, the same number as leaders Posta Rangers.
Goals from Henry Omollo, Hillary Otieno, and Eston Omengo did the trick for Homeboyz, whose chairman Cleophas Shimanyula their intention this season is to win the Premier League title.
“We have managed to come close twice in the past few seasons, but I think this is our season to win the league,” Shimanyula told Pan-Africa Football after the game. “We have a good squad capable of delivering the title.”
He added: “Our good start to the campaign means we are in contention, we don’t want to start talking about it now, but from the look of things, we are a team to watch.”
In another match, Mara Sugar settled for a 0-0 draw Bidco United.
