Former Harambee Stars striker Bonface Ambani is the new chairman of Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League side AFC Leopards after winning elections held in Nairobi on Sunday.

Ambani, who also featured for AFC Leopards and left the season when they last won the league title in 1998, garnered 1,101 votes, against 682 by his only challenger Enos Mutoka. He will now replace Dan Shikanda, who had served for two terms.

Ambani was elected alongside Isaac Mulindi, the new Secretary General, after receiving 656 votes to beat Robert Situma (534) and Irene Sitawa (429).

Meanwhile, Newton Lime was elected the new treasurer after collecting 676 votes to beat Edward Buhasho (599) and Patrick Kanyangi (445).

Speaking after the elections, an elated Ambani said, as quoted by Mozzart Sports: "I had a wonderful team behind me. They have done a commendable job. I also want to thank my brother Namai, who joined forces with me in this journey. I truly lack the words to express my gratitude.

“The glory is here. We were the last group to win the league 27 years ago. Being back here feels surreal, but I know exactly what the fans, players, and coaches need. The journey to restore Ingwe’s pride begins now.”

Ambani will now be tasked to help Ingwe regain its glory days and especially end the long wait to win the Premier League title.
