AFC Leopards squandered an opportunity to close in on rivals Gor Mahia in the FKF Premier League table after allowing Mathare United to come back and maul them 4-1 at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.
The outcome left Ingwe six points behind record champions Gor Mahia, who will have an opportunity to make it nine if they win their fixture against Ulinzi Stars on Sunday.
AFC Leopards went into the fixture having registered mixed results in the flight matches. After drawing 0-0 against Bandari FC away, AFC Leopards went ahead to beat Posta Rangers 2-1, before losing 1-0 against KCB.
Ingwe recovered in their next fixture to hammer Shabana 5-1 but they were not able to answer questions posed by the โSlum Boysโ who scored four goals in the huge win.
AFC Leopards started strongly in the game but they wasted opportunities to take an early lead with Musa Oundo and Tyson Otieno the main culprits. The missed chances allowed Mathare to come into the game, with an improved midfield display.
The game headed onto the half-time break tied at 0-0 and Leopards were forced to make an early change at the start of the second period after Emmanuel Lwangu limped off with an injury, paving the way for Ken Odhiambo.
Despite the changes, Ingwe were forced to wait until the 60th minute to take the lead. Victor Omune found the back of the net with a superb finish.

In the stoppages, Mathare United ensured they wrapped up maximum points from the fixture when Ian Omondi drilled home the fourth. Out of 24 matches so far this season, Mathare United registered their eighth victory of the season.
The โSlum Boysโ moved up to 12th with 29 points, while Ingwe remained second with 43 points.
