AFC Leopards, Shabana suffer defeats, FKF Premier League postponed

Pressure is mounting on AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani to resign after the Kenyan Premier League side went for their third match without a win following a 0-0 draw against Bandari FC at Kasarani Stadium on Tuesday.

Going into the fixture, Ingwe had failed to win their previous two matches, securing a 1-1 draw against Sofapaka and a 2-2 draw against Posta Rangers.

Against the Dockers from Mombasa, Ingwe struggled to break them down with their only chance of the game falling to Ugandan import Samuel Sseeyonjo but he failed to hit the target. After the final whistle, AFC Leopards fans gathered at the team’s bus demanding for answers.

It needed the intervention of armed Police officers to quell the situation and escort the team out of the match venue. Several fans chanted ‘Ambani must go’ while others wanted the entire team including the squad to be fired.

The third consecutive draw left AFC Leopards sitting 15th on the 18-team league table, just one place above the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Bandari under new Moroccan coach Mohamed Borji moved up to eighth with five points accumulated from one win, two defeats, and one draw.

Posta Rangers end Shabana’s unbeaten run

Meanwhile, Shabana FC suffered their first defeat of the season after going down 2-1 against Posta Rangers at Gusii Stadium. The Kisii-based Glamour Boys dropped to second position with Posta jumping to the summit.

Elsewhere, following the demise of former Kenya Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) have postponed Premier League matches which were scheduled for this weekend.

In a statement, FKF said: “Following the Government’s declaration of seven days of National Mourning in honour of the late former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has suspended all league fixtures scheduled during this period. “We join the nation in mourning a great leader and a passionate supporter of Kenyan football. May his soul rest in peace.”
