AFC Leopards fire blanks, Tusker suffer defeat against Kenya Police FC

Kenyan Premier League giants AFC Leopards failed to break down Murang’a Seal as they settled for a 0-0 draw at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.

Ingwe under coach Fred Ambani went into the fixture seeking to make amends from their first defeat of the season against Mara Sugar the previous weekend. The game looked a balanced affair in the opening exchanges with the visiting side looking a threat.

AFC Leopards’ first chance of the game saw youngster Kelly Madada combine well with James Kinyanjui but the latter hit his effort wide. Victor Haki had another good chance to break the deadlock for AFC Leopards but he miscued his effort wide.

The half-time whistle went with both sides tied 0-0. At the start of the second half, Ambani brought in Christopher Koloti and Ronald Sichenje while looking for goals but Murang’a Seal remained tight at the back.

AFC Leopards remained third behind Homeboyz

The draw denied AFC Leopards a chance to move level on points with second-placed Kakamega Homeboyz as they remained third with 13 points from eight matches. Gor Mahia are topping the log with 16 points from seven matches.

Meanwhile, Tusker suffered their third defeat of the season after going down 2-1 against champions Kenya Police FC at St. Sebastian Park.

Eric Zakayo, who was formerly at Tusker, put the law enforcers ahead in the 13th minute before David Simiyu doubled their lead. Erick Kapaito pulled a goal back for the Brewers from the penalty spot, but it was not enough to help his side secure something from the fixture.

The defeat saw Tusker drop to sixth with pressure mounting on coach Charles Okere. The Brewers have managed three wins, three draws, and suffered three defeats.

For Police, under new coach Dusan Stojanovic, the win marked their third of the campaign as they moved above to ninth with 11 points from six matches. Police have drawn two matches, and lost one.
