AFCCLE: Franck Kessié is Al-Ahli Saudi’s pillar—Jaissle

Al-Ahli Saudi FC coach Matthias Jaissle has spoken of Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessié’s importance to Tuesday’s encounter against Al-Sadd.

The Saudi Pro League giants take on their Qatar Stars League opponents in a group B match of the AFC Champions’ League Elite (AFCCLE) while hoping to go within two points of leaders Al Hilal.

The Jeddah-based outfit is unbeaten in three games, winning twice and drawing once to occupy fourth place. In contrast Al-Sadd occupied the second from the bottom position in the 12-member log table while winless in three games. They have drawn twice and lost once.

Speaking ahead of the match, Jaissle said he was expecting a very difficult assignment in the continental cup game.

“Al-Sadd is a good team technically and as a unit. We know tomorrow’s game will be difficult no matter what their recent results have been like. But we’re optimistic about getting the win and taking all three points,” the coach told his club’s media.

“We’re aware of how special our record is with 21 straight games without a loss in the competition, and we want to keep that going with confidence, not fear.”

Why Al-Ahli Saudi coach did not forget to mention Franck Kessié

Jaissle did not hesitate to single out Kessié for praise, citing his work-rate and good influence of team mates.

“Franck Kessié is a really important player for the club. He’s one of the main pillars of the team, both on and off the pitch,” the coach added.

The midfielder has since admitted that Al-Sadd could pose a threat to the Saudi Pro League team’s unbeaten run.

“Tomorrow’s game is absolutely vital. We’ll be fighting hard to maintain our winning run, especially as the current champions. We have to stay united as a team to defend our title,” the former Barcelona star added.
