South Africa and Mamelodi Sundowns’ right-back Khuliso Mudau shared a confident statement with his club teammate and Uganda Cranes legend Denis Onyango ahead of South Africa's second-leg clash against Uganda in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers at Namboole Stadium.
Recalling their intense first-leg encounter in Johannesburg, where Uganda’s winger Rogers Mato scored a crucial goal in the two all drawand kept Mudau on the back foot with his relentless pace, Mudau admitted he wasn’t at his best fitness:
“In the first leg, Mato gave me a very hard time with his pace and runs but I wasn’t at my full fitness. This time around, I am ready for him. He will see the difference,” Mudau told Onyango.
Rogers Mato and the Ugandan attack had a difficult time against the Bafana Bafana defense on Friday.

True to his word, Mudau delivered a defensive masterclass in the return leg, effectively neutralizing Mato and showcasing why he is considered one of the finest right-backs in Africa. The Ugandan attack struggled to assert themselves at home throughout the clash in Kampala like in the previous meeting between the teams in South Africa and Mudau's pace highlights the strength of Bafana Bafana, a team that can neutralize the influence of opposition wingers.
