AFCON: Amoura backs Algeria to thrive despite ‘demanding’ group

Algeria forward Mohamed Amine Amoura has backed the national team to go far in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be staged in Morocco from December.

The Wolfsburg striker has detailed their mission in Morocco adding that the North African side will thrive at the 35th edition of the biennial tournament, despite a demanding group that includes Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea and Sudan.

‘We respect everyone, but we fear no one’

In an interview, Amoura said Algeria will go into the tournament not fearing anyone with their focus on proving their worth on the pitch.

“We know it’s a strong group with very respectable teams. We respect everyone, but we fear no one. We have a balanced squad with outstanding players and we will prove our value on the pitch,” Amoura told CAFOnline.com.

“Our goal is clear: go deep into the tournament and represent Algeria in the best possible way. We want to make our fans happy and, God willing, fight for the title—but that requires focus and taking it step by step.”

On what will be Algeria’s key in the AFCON, he replied: “The key is team spirit. We have a talented generation, but our real strength is our unity and solidarity on and off the field.”

He added: “Our dear fans are our source of strength. We feel your support everywhere. We promise to fight in every match so that, God willing, we can all be proud of Algeria.”

Dwelling on his personal goals, he explained: “It’s a great honour every time I wear the Algeria shirt. Personally, I want to help the team as much as possible—by scoring, providing assists or simply doing the collective work on the pitch. The most important thing is to give everything for the country.”

The Desert Foxes will kick off their campaign against Sudan on December 24.
