AFCON: Cameroon captain Nouhou Tolo sends apology after exit

Cameroon captain Nouhou Tolo has vowed that the national team will come back even stronger following their exit from the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Indomitable Lions’ journey came to an end at the quarterfinals stage after losing 2-0 against hosts Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Goals in either half from Brahim Díaz and Ismail Saibari sealed a memorable triumph for the Atlas Lions in front of a raucous crowd. Coming into the quarter-final under pressure following an unconvincing Round of 16 win over Tanzania, the hosts responded in emphatic fashion.

Here is the statement from Tolo;

“To the Cameroonian people,

To my teammates and management,

This tournament didn’t end the way we hoped it would. Disappointment is there but so is pride. We got together only a few weeks before the competition, with little time to prepare, and yet, everyone gave everything to defend our colors with honor.

I thank my teammates for their commitment and sacrificial spirit I also thank the technical, medical staff and all the people who worked in the shadows in difficult conditions.

To our supporters, here in Morocco and Cameroon, thank you for your unwavering support. We felt your strength in every match.

As a Captain, I take the responsibility of the group. We win together, we lose together, and we’ll come back stronger.

Thank you and God bless Cameroon.

The defeat denied Cameroon an opportunity to win the 2025 edition in the North African nation, while Morocco progressed to face Nigeria in the semis.
