AFCON: Chippa United send Nigeria keeper special message

When it comes to allegiance to their goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, South Africa’s Chippa United often find themselves in an awkward position.

The Betway Premiership club clutches to horns of dilemma when Bafana Bafana are playing against the Super Eagles, with Nwabali between the sticks.

While complementing the Super Eagles’ number one, the Chilli Boys unintentionally seem to discredit South Africa.

However, now with Hugo Broos’ men ousted from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, Chippa United have expressed themselves freely regarding Nwabali.

After the 29-year-old helped Nigeria overcome Algeria 2-0 in the AFCON quarterfinal match on Saturday, the Betway Premiership side, via its Facebook page, sent a message to the keeper.

It reads: “Huge congratulations to our own Stanley Nwabali on qualifying for the CAF semifinals. We, as a team, are proud of you. Keep flying your country’s flag high.”

How has Chippa United keeper Nwabali Fared so far at AFCON

Nwabali has kept four clean sheets in six matches at the tournament underway in Morocco. He has, according to Nigeria’s Punch newspaper, attributed his exploits to growing experience at the tournament.

“I feel there has been a lot of improvement because this is where experience in the tournament comes in,” he said.

More will be expected from the Chippa United shot stopper when Nigeria take on Morocco in the AFCON semi-final.
