AFCON: Morocco defender Achraf Hakimi not 100 percent fit – Enrique

Paris Saint-Germain F.C. coach Luis Enrique has remained cautious that despite his return for Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), defender Achraf Hakimi was still not 100 percent yet.

The 2025 African Player of the Year joined the Morocco camp in preparations for the AFCON having not played since his injury suffered against Bayern Munich in Champions League fixture.

However, after missing the opening Group A two matches against Comoros, and Mali, he returned for the game against Zambia which the Atlas Lions won 3-0 to qualify for the knockout stages.

‘It’s a good thing that he can play’

Hakimi subsequently played in the Round of 16 against Tanzania (1-0) and the quarterfinal against Cameroon (2-0).

Giving his condition on the player, Enrique told PSG website: ““Achraf Hakimi is doing well; he has qualified for the semifinals, just like Ibrahim Mbaye.

“This is good news. For us, it’s important that he’s fit and at 100%, which isn’t the case yet. But it’s a good thing that he can play with his national team, to come back in top form.”

Following their victory against Cameroon, Morocco will now face Nigeria in the semifinals at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, on Wednesday.
