AFCON: Nigeria star Semi Ajayi says team focused to win 2025 title

Nigeria senior men national team defender Semi Ajayi has stated that the Super Eagles are focused on ensuring they fulfill their ambition of winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The three-time AFCON champions are set to face hosts Morocco in a semi-final clash on Wednesday in Rabat, with a place in the final at stake.

Super Eagles finished as runners-up in the 2023 AFCON, where they lost to the hosts, Côte d’Ivoire.

Speaking after their quarter-final victory over Algeria, the Hull City defender stated that the players are determined to go a step further than their previous campaign.

“The ambition is there, the goal is the same, we know how painful it was to not go all the way the last time and we’re looking to make amends for that.

Like I said, we still got a semifinal to do it and we are really hungry, ready and focused to make sure we fulfill the ambition.

We can always improve. No performance is perfect and whatever we need to fix we can do that on the training field before the next game.”

Coach Eric Chelle’s side, who returned to Fes on Sunday, will depart for Rabat on Monday ahead of their highly anticipated clash against the Atlas Lions.
