History beckons AFCON-bound legend Pelembe, faces son in final

After making it into Mozambique’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) aged 42, more history awaits South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) legend Elias Dominguez Pelembe.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns winger will come face-to-face with his son Diego Pelembe during Mozambique Cup final at Marien Ngouabi ground in Maputo on Saturday.

The final involves Pelembe senior’s UD Songo against his son’s Black Bulls FC. It will be the last domestic league assignment for the PSL winner before he heads to Morocco for the AFCON finals.

When did Diego Pelembe make his debut?

Black Bulls captain Kadre was on target in a midweek game when they edged Ferroviario de Maputo 1-0 to qualify for the final.

It was during that game that Diego made his debut for Black Bulls at the age of 15 when he came on as a substitute.

UD Songo will, apart from the former SuperSport United winger Pelembe, also bank on ex-Mamelodi Sundowns star Luís Miquissone. The Tete-based side defeated Ferroviario de Nacala 2-0 in the semifinal.

Ahead of the game, Black Bullets assistant coach Custodio Gune has vowed that his side will take on UD Songo full of “commitment, focus, and Black Bulls identity. We are ready. We're in this together. We're in
the fight.”
