The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has expressed satisfaction with the Super Eagles’ early qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Round of 16 in Morocco.
Nigeria edged the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia 3-2 in their second AFCON Group C encounter at the Fez Stadium on Saturday.
Gusau, while speaking to members of the press after the victory, expressed joy over the early qualification and acknowledged the team’s steady progress.
“Well, I must say I’m very happy. At least we have crossed this line. We are now to the next round of the tournament.
In this kind of tournament, you always try to look at the performance of the boys, match in, match out. Now we have seen a lot of progress from the last match.”
While commending the team’s progress, he called for coach Eric Chelle and his players to work on minor areas of concern in order to ensure a better outing in their final group match.
“I know there’s some little hiccups that we have in this game. The coaches are aware of it as well as the players. So we hope to see a better game in the next three days against Uganda.”
The three-time African champions are on a redemption mission as they look to make up for their exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They aim to improve upon their performance at the 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire, where they finished as runners-up.
