Head coach of Sierra Leone’s national U-20 side, Mohamed Lamin Kamara has reacted to his side’s goalless draw against Zambia in the opening of the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt on Sunday.

The Shooting Stars, who are making their tournament debut, posted an impressive performance at the Cairo international stadium but the stalemate left head coach, Lamin Kamara looking for answers to why their dominance could not translate into goals.

“The outcome doesn’t please us completely but we will study the game and pick apart certain critical moments,” Kamara said. “To advance, one must defeat the finest on the field. We are up for the challenge. Our last three games give us plenty more to play for.”

Sierra Leone now have a tall order to beat host nation Egypt in their second group game. Egypt dug deeper in their opening game to beat South Africa by 1-0 at the Cairo international Stadium on Sunday, April 27. The 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations began on Sunday, April 27 and will finish on May 18.
