AFCON: Wilfred Ndidi wary of “aggressive” Mozambique

The Captain of the Nigeria senior men’s national team, Wilfred Ndidi, has acknowledged the quality of the Mambas of Mozambique as they prepare to square off in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Round of 16 this Monday in Morocco.

Nigeria will take on a Mozambique side that advanced as one of the best third-placed teams. The Mambas made history by securing their first-ever AFCON win against Gabon, despite suffering two other defeats during the group stage.

Speaking at Sunday’s pre-match press conference, Ndidi described the Mambas as a side that cannot be underrated.

“They are a very good team, they want to play, they are very aggressive, they play like a team.

So we’ve seen the team we’ve watched their group stage game we know they fight but the main focus is about us, it is about how we approach the game, how we want it.

So we just focus on the game but they are a very good team, no team in this tournament should be underrated.”.

This encounter marks only the second time Mozambique will face the Super Eagles at the AFCON, following their initial meeting in the group stage of the 2010 edition.
