Zimbabwe coach Marian ‘Mario’ Marinica has challenged his players to fight like warriors and not give up when facing Angola at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco on Friday.
Speaking ahead of the Group B match, the former Liberia mentor said his side was faced with the only option of collecting maximum points if they are to progress past the group-stage.
“It is going to be a difficult match but we are the Warriors and as you know Warriors never give up,” Marinica is quoted by New Zimbabwe website.
“So we are very prepared for the match mentally, our last game is now water under the bridge so we have to move on. Like I have said we are here to compete and Friday is another day for us to do that, let me say a fighting chance.”
Zimbabwe has since been boosted by the return of veteran forward Knowledge Musona and defender Divine Lunga, who were unable to play against Egypt in their AFCON opener.
Sean Fusire, who was also unavailable due to a knock, has returned to full training. However, Marinica is monitoring defender Munashe Garananga who is also struggling with leg discomfort.
Friday’s meeting is between teams who are smarting from defeats. Zimbabwe lost 2-1 to Egypt on Tuesday while South Africa handed Angola defeat by a similar margin. Therefore, a win is a must for Zimbabwe and Angola.
