Afriyie Barnieh scores as FC Aarau pile pressure on leaders Vaduz

Ghana international Daniel Afriyie Barnieh registered a late goal as FC Aarau earned a resounding victory in week 25 at Etoile Carouge in the Swiss Challenge League on Saturday.

The former Hearts of Oak attacker joined the fray from the bench before etching his name on the score sheet in the 85th minute as Aarau cruised to a 3-0 victory at the Stade de la Fontenette.

The visitors shot ahead very early in the game when Shkelqim Vladi found the back of the net as early as the eighth minute mark, ending the first half with a slim goal margin.

FC Aarau continued their dominance in the second half, with Shkelqim Vladi firing home his second goal of the match to extend the lead for the visitors in the 75th-minute.

Afriyie Barnieh rose from the bench in the 18th minute to ice the cake for Aarau with five minutes to full time pushing them into second on the league table with 56 points, three behind leaders FC Vaduz.

The 24-year-old Ghanaian forward has been impressive for FC Aarau in the Swiss Challenge League this season, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 24 appearances.

FC Aarau will next play against leaders FC Vaduz in week 25 on March 13 with an option to go level on 59 points with their opponent.
