Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, has reportedly left the team’s camp for the Unity Cup in London due to personal reasons.

Musa who only returned to the national team for the first time since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which was played in 2024.

Following AFCON Musa, parted ways with Turkish club Sivasspor. This departure, coupled with concerns about his fitness levels, unfortunately sidelined him from national team duties for Nigeria.

However, the most capped Super Eagles player made a significant return to the Nigerian football scene last October, rejoining Kano Pillars in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Since then, he's been a consistent presence for the former NPFL champions, making 23 appearances and demonstrating his continued attacking prowess with 10 goals and 2 assists.

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle invited him for the tournament in the UK, where he played in the 2-1 win over Ghana on Wednesday.

Musa came off the bench in the 62nd minute and put up a decent showing, with his experience seen by some as a valuable asset and a stabilizing factor for a relatively youthful squad.

Following the victory over the Black Stars, Nigeria will play Jamaica in the final of the Unity Cup next, but the former CSKA Moscow star will be absent for the game.
