Sevilla duo Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke ruled out of Elche clash

La Liga side Sevilla FC will be without Nigerian forwards Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke in their upcoming league fixture against Elche at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium on Friday.

Adams is still in a race against regain his fitness and may only return after the Elche game. Ejuke, however, is confirmed unavailable. He is dealing with a thigh injury, which has been a recurring issue. His expected return is now set for after the Elche game, a frustrating setback for the striker who has shown glimpses of promise.

The club’s medical team disclosed that Ejuke has sustained a myofascial injury in the hamstring of his left thigh, ruling him out once again. The injury is a recurrence of a similar problem that sidelined him for three months last year, raising significant concerns about his long-term fitness.

Coach Matías Almeyda has been candid about the difficult situation. In a recent press conference, he acknowledged the reality of the squad’s fitness issues while refusing to use them as an excuse.

“I understand the situation, and of course, you always want to have everyone available, but that’s not an excuse. We’re preparing for a long season and will fight with the resources we have. I won’t complain, because I don’t make excuses.”

Almeyda also highlighted that injuries are a common risk, especially when introducing a new methodology.

“Changing methodology carries an injury risk because we saw numbers different from ours. These are risks, but injuries have been minimal, normal for the demands. Some players come with past injuries, and that’s where careful management for the future comes in.”

The news further compounds the challenges facing Almeyda’s squad, which is already grappling with a growing list of sidelined players.

Ejuke’s tenure at Sevilla has been plagued by injuries since his arrival in the summer of 2024. He has spent more time in the treatment room than on the pitch, preventing him from establishing a consistent rhythm and frustrating both the club and its supporters. Fans, who have witnessed his flashes of skill and creativity, believe he could be a crucial asset in adding much-needed spark to Sevilla’s attack if only he could stay fit.

Sevilla has been hit by multiple injuries, and Ejuke’s continued absence adds further strain ahead of a crucial run of fixtures.
