Akor Adams nets decisive goal as Sevilla edge Athletic Bilbao

Nigerian Super Eagles forward Akor Adams continued his impressive goal-scoring form, finding the net as Sevilla secured a 2-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao in their Spanish La Liga Matchday 21 fixture.

​Adams, making his 15th appearance for Sevilla on Saturday, converted a second-half penalty to ensure the hosts left the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium with all three points.

​Athletic Bilbao had opened the scoring in the 40th minute via a tap-in from Robert Navarro, but Gerard Fernandez restored parity just two minutes later with a low-driven shot that beat the visitors’ goalkeeper.

​In the 56th minute, Adams extended Sevilla’s lead when he calmly slotted home from the penalty spot to the delight of the home supporters. This victory is a significant boost for Sevilla, who have been fighting to climb away from the relegation zone.

​The Nigerian international has now scored three goals in his last two games since returning from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he helped the Super Eagles secure a bronze medal.

In 15 appearances this season, the 25-year-old now has six goals and two assists.

​His compatriot, Chidera Ejuke, also featured in the match, coming on as an 81st-minute substitute for Isaac Romero to help see out the win.
