Akor Adams excited to spark Sevilla comeback with brace

Nigerian forward Akor Adams expressed his excitement after helping La Liga side Sevilla secure a point against Elche on Monday, marking a triumphant return from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the Super Eagles.

Akor, who returned to Spain from Morocco on Sunday after helping Nigeria defeat Egypt in the AFCON third-place match, sparked a comeback for Sevilla by bagging a brace in their 2-2 draw.

The match began poorly for the hosts; Aleix Febas gave Elche the lead 14 minutes into the first half, and Germán Valera doubled the advantage in the 55th minute. However, Akor—coming off the bench—reduced the deficit in the 75th minute with a clinical close-range effort. The 25-year-old then completed the rescue mission by converting a high-pressure penalty in stoppage time.

Quoted by Mundo Deportivo, the Nigerian international expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play, noting that while the team had chances to win, he was pleased to at least secure a draw.

A Hero’s Return from AFCON By Akor Adams

“I came back for the match after a long tournament. The team needed me, and it’s good that the coach gave me minutes to energise the squad and get the draw,” Adams said.

“I think we let a few small details slip. We played a good game that we normally should have won. Elche is a good team, but we created many chances, and I think we could have taken all three points.

“The most important thing is the team. I watched all the games while I was away, and the results weren’t what we wanted. We managed a draw, I scored, and I’m very happy for the team. Now, we’re focused on what’s next.”

The draw leaves Sevilla 14th in the La Liga table. They now turn their attention to Saturday, when they welcome 10th-place Athletic Club to the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.
