Nigerian goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has openly confessed that Marumo Gallants are worried of their position in Betway Premiership with only two matches left to conclude the season.

Gallants are currently sitting 10th on the 16-team table and with the expulsion of Royal AM from the top-flight, they can still find themselves being sucked into the relegation zone if they don’t win their remaining matches.

“This is the first time that I have been in this situation. I have never been here [relegation fight], but I think we have a coach [Ouaddou] that knows what he is doing,” Akpeyi explained as quoted by FARPost.

“This is a period of uncertainty, but I am convinced that our win against Kaizer Chiefs gave us confidence. We can only hope the next games will give us similar results. As an individual, I have never been in a situation where we reach the last four games facing an uncertain future.”

The former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper further confirmed that his transfer move to Gallants from Swallows at the start of the season was not an easy decision.

“You know, moving from Swallows to Marumo was not easy. That switch had its own challenges in terms of adjusting and learning the new environment. Those developments were so fast,” said Akpeyi.

“I can say it took a lot and has shown that as players, we will always have a lot to learn. The transition was not how I envisioned it. And if I am to move at the end of the season, I will take so many lessons with me. If I stay put, then it will be another journey of learning.”

Gallants remaining two matches will see them host Chippa United at Seisa Ramabodu Stadium before they wind the season away against Magesi FC at Seshego Stadium.
