Al Ahli Saudi coach speaks about involving Mahrez and Kessie in the next game after AFCON exit

Matthias Jaissle, head coach of Saudi side Al Ahli Jeddah, has spoken about his Algerian star Riyad Mahrez and Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessié ahead of the team’s upcoming match.

Both Mahrez and Kessié had to return to club duty after exiting the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 at the quarter-final stage. Côte d’Ivoire were eliminated by Egypt, while Algeria bowed out following a defeat to Nigeria.

Mahrez has already rejoined Al Ahli’s squad and took part in team training on Monday, marking his return after international duty.

Al Ahli are scheduled to face Al Taawoun on Wednesday in Round 15 of the Saudi Pro League (Roshn Saudi League).

Speaking to the Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, Jaissle commented on if Mahrez and Kessié will be included in the match squad, saying:
“First, we need to assess their physical and mental readiness, and then we will make a decision.”

He added:
“Do you want me to reveal all my cards? I will not talk about who will play before the match so as not to give anything away.”
