Al Ahly defender Achraf Dari moves to Sweden on loan

Al Ahly SC central defender Achraf Dari is off on loan to Sweden’s Allsvenskan for at least the next four months after the Moroccan completed a loan move to Kalmar FF.

The 26-year-old towering defensive presence returns to European club football following an unsuccessful spell with Ahly. He only made 25 appearances for the Cairo giants after joining at the beginning of the 2024-25 campaign for a substantial transfer fee from French club Stade Brestois.

A former star and CAF Champions League winner with Moroccan giants Wydad AC in his native Casablanca, Dari made three appearances during the Morocco national team’s historic 2022 FIFA World Cup run to a fourth place finish. His performances with the Atlas Lions and Wydad prompted a move to Stade Brestois, where he made 22 Ligue appearances before moving on loan to Belgium’s Charleroi.

While his club and national team career has stalled due to a lack of playing time with Ahly and Brest, Dari remains in his prime and could rejuvenate his career with the loan move to Sweden. Despite the short terms of the loan, the opportunity will put him in the spotlight for a potential permanent move elsewhere in European club football.

Kalmar are currently competing in Sweden’s cup competition, the Svenska Cupen, where they began their 2026 campaign with a victory and a defeat in the tournament’s group stage. They will begin their Allvenskan season on April 5.

Dari’s talent and ability is well regarded from his days at Wydad. He was awarded Best Defender in Morocco’s top flight Botola Pro following the 2020-21 season and was also named in the league’s Team of the Season both that season and the following season. Dari also won the award for Best Defender after Wydad won the 2021-22 CAF Champions League.
