Al Ahly SC have officially announced major changes to their football operations, appointing a new sporting director and interim head coach.

Mohamed Youssef, a former Al Ahly player and coach, has been named as the club's new sporting director, replacing Mohamed Ramadan, whose departure was confirmed earlier today.

Youssef brings a strong track record to the role, having previously led Al Ahly to the 2013 CAF Champions League title and the 2014 CAF Super Cup during his time as head coach.

In addition, former Al Ahly defender Emad El-Nahhas has been appointed as the club’s interim head coach. El-Nahhas will be in charge until Al Ahly appoint a new foreign manager to lead the team at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.

After the arrival of the new head coach, El-Nahhas is expected to remain as part of the technical staff, possibly serving as an assistant coach.

It is worth mentioning that Mohamed Youssef was managing Haras El Hodoud this season in the Nile Egyptian League, where he achieved very good results.

Under his leadership, Haras El Hodoud secured a spot in the title phase of the Nile Egyptian League by finishing ninth in the regular season standings — a very good feat for a club that had just earned promotion from the second division.

The Egyptian giants are enduring one of their toughest seasons in recent years.

In addition to their Champions League exit, Al Ahly don't participate in this season's Egypt Cup as a disciplinary decision because they opted to withdraw from the last season's version to rest their players, and they are currently second in the Nile Egyptian League, four points behind leaders Pyramids FC.

Moreover, the club faces the possibility of a three-point deduction following a decision by the board of directors not to attend a match against Zamalek, citing the decision not to appoint a foreign referee for the fixture.

Should the points deduction be applied, Al Ahly could drop to third place in the league standings and lose the ext season's CAF Champions League spot.

Al Ahly's season has also seen disappointment in the CAF Super Cup, where they were defeated by their arch-rivals Zamalek at the start of the current campaign.

However, the club has managed to secure two trophies this season: the Egyptian Super Cup and the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup, providing a silver lining in an otherwise challenging season.
