Egyptian giants Al Ahly have announced Emad El-Nahhas as the team’s interim head coach for the coming period. The former Egypt international, who has been serving as an assistant coach, takes charge for the second time in less than a year.
El-Nahhas had stepped in last April and successfully guided the Red Devils to secure the Nile Egyptian League title before moving back into an assistant role under Spanish coach Jose Riveiro. However, following Riveiro’s recent dismissal, Al Ahly have once again turned to El-Nahhas to steady the ship.
Alongside the coaching change, the club also confirmed the appointment of Walid Salah Eldin as the new director of football. The role had been vacant since Khaled Bebo’s departure, with Salah Eldin joining from ZED FC, where he previously held the same position.
Riveiro leaves Al Ahly after a difficult spell, overseeing seven matches across the Nile Egyptian League and the FIFA Club World Cup. During his short tenure, the team managed just one win, with two defeats and four draws. In the domestic league, they played four matches, collecting a single victory, one loss, and two draws — a run that sees them sitting in 13th place on the table.
The club will now have time to search for a new permanent coach to revive their campaign both domestically and internationally.
