Jess Thorup, head coach of Al Ahly, has said that the upcoming quarter-final against Espérance Sportive de Tunis in the CAF Champions League attracts significant attention, stressing that the Red Devils’ current focus is on the Egyptian league.
The quarter-final draw paired Al Ahly with the Tunisian giants in what can be considered one of the standout ties of the round.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Torup said:
“The first leg against Espérance away from Egypt is an important point, especially since we will play the return leg at home in Cairo in front of our fans. That is a positive factor in Al Ahly’s journey in the competition.”
He added:
“All the teams that qualified for the quarter-finals are strong and highly motivated to continue competing. Any team aiming to win the title must not fear any opponent.”
Torup also emphasized that topping the group in the previous round is now history:
“Finishing first in our group is good, but it is part of the past. The team will continue with the same desire and motivation to win every match.”
He concluded:
“The match against Espérance attracts significant attention, but our current focus is fully on the league. We will approach the coming stage with one objective — to win.”
