Al Ahly claimed an important 3–1 victory over hosts Arab Contractors SC on Thursday evening in the Nile Egyptian League.
The match, played in the 21st round of the 2025–2026 season, saw Al Ahly take control early before sealing the win with a late goal in stoppage time.
Egypt international Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet opened the scoring in the 35th minute. The move began with a pass from Belammari that slipped through the Arab Contractors defense before reaching Emam Ashour, who delivered a cross into the box for Trezeguet to head past goalkeeper Mahmoud Abu El-Saud.
Al Ahly went into halftime leading 1–0. Early in the second half, Arab Contractors equalized in the 51st minute, but the goal was ruled out after a VAR review for offside.
Emam Ashour then doubled Al Ahly’s lead in the 71st minute with a powerful strike that found the back of the net, making it 2–0. The midfielder celebrated in the style of former Egypt star Mohamed Zidan by removing his boot and playing with it during the celebration.
The hosts reignited the contest late in the match when Mohamed Salem scored for Arab Contractors to reduce the deficit to 2–1, meeting a low cross inside the box.
However, the reigning champions sealed the victory deep into stoppage time when Hussein El Shahat scored the third goal in the 95th minute, finishing off the game for his team.
The match also saw a late red card for Arab Contractors player Mostafa Gamal in the 90+9 minute after a foul on Achraf Bencharki.
With this result, Al Ahly move up to 40 points, temporarily sharing the top spot of the Nile Egyptian League table with Pyramids FC and Zamalek SC. Meanwhile, Arab Contractors remain in 17th place with 18 points.
