Al Ahly recorded their second loss in the Egypt Capital Cup (League Cup) after falling 2-1 to hosts Ghazl El Mahalla in Tuesday’s clash, held as part of the third round of the group stage.
The match took place at Ghazl El Mahalla Stadium, where the hosts managed to secure their first victory of the competition this season.
Al Ahly head coach Jess Thorup opted to field a squad largely composed of young players, with only three senior first-team members included in the lineup: Mohamed Seha, Mostafa El Aash, and Hussein El Shahat.
Ghazl El Mahalla opened the scoring early in the ninth minute through Tunisian forward Rachad Al Arfaoui, who fired a shot from inside the penalty area. The ball struck the right post of Mohamed Seha before finding the back of the net.
Al Ahly responded shortly before halftime, leveling the score in the 42nd minute. Hussein El Shahat delivered a smart through ball, allowing Omar Sayed Moawad to go one-on-one with the goalkeeper and slot the ball into the low right corner.
In the second half, Ghazl El Mahalla regained the lead as Congolese striker Kibu Saidi finished decisively from inside the box, following a cross from the right flank.
The victory marked Ghazl El Mahalla’s first win in the Egypt Capital Cup this season, while Al Ahly suffered a second setback after their opening-round defeat to ENPPI.
