Al Ahly held to frustrating goalless draw by Al Masry

Al Ahly failed to break down a resilient Al Masry defense, settling for a 0–0 draw in their Nile Egyptian League clash on Sunday, despite dominating possession and creating a flurry of chances throughout the game.

The Red Devils controlled proceedings from the opening whistle, with Mahmoud Trezeguet testing the goalkeeper early on with a low effort straight at him. The first major opportunity came in the 16th minute, when Nejc Gradisar found himself through on goal but squandered the chance to put Al Ahly ahead. Moments later, Ahmed “Zizo” Sayed won a free kick, but his low drive was palmed away by Mahmoud Hamdy, who went on to deliver an outstanding performance in the visitors’ goal.

Hamdy continued to frustrate Al Ahly throughout the first half—first denying a spectacular bicycle kick from Gradisar, then saving another close-range effort that deflected off the post before he managed to claw it away from the goal line in the 30th minute.

The drama peaked in stoppage time, when Zizo won a penalty in the 90+2 minute after being pulled by his shirt inside the box. However, he missed the spot-kick, striking the left post to miss the chance to get the 3 points.

Despite 21 attempts on goal, Al Ahly could not find a breakthrough and had to settle for a draw — their fifth of the season. The result lifts them to 23 points, and they sit second in the standings. Meanwhile, Al Masry climbed to 20 points and sit in the fifth place.
