Al Ahly secured a narrow 1–0 victory over Smouha on Monday evening in Round 19 of the Nile Egyptian League.
The match was played at Borg El Arab Stadium, where Al Ahly claimed their second consecutive league win, having defeated El Gouna in the previous round.
The decisive moment came in the 30th minute. Marwan Othman reacted quickest inside the box, following up on an effort from Youssef Belammari. Smouha goalkeeper Ahmed Mayhoub initially parried the shot, but Othman capitalized on the rebound to slot home the only goal of the encounter.
With the victory, Al Ahly temporarily moved to the top of the league standings with 36 points, intensifying the title race. Meanwhile, Smouha’s tally remains at 25 points, leaving them in eighth place.
