Al Ahly suffer new setback as Emam Ashour sidelined with viral infection

Al Ahly have been dealt another blow with the news that midfielder Emam Ashour has been diagnosed with a viral infection (Virus A). The club’s medical staff confirmed that the player underwent extensive tests, which revealed the illness.

According to Al Ahly TV, the Egyptian international Emam Ashour will be out of action for at least a month, as his recovery process is expected to take time.

The timing is particularly frustrating for both the club and the player. Ashour had only just returned to action in Al Ahly’s 1-1 draw against ENPPI in the Nile Egyptian League, coming on as a substitute for his first appearance in nearly three months. He had been sidelined with a shoulder injury suffered in June during the FIFA Club World Cup group stage clash against Inter Miami.

Now, just as he was beginning to regain match fitness, Ashour faces another spell on the sidelines to be the second missing star after Ahmed Zizo who is injured as well.

Al Ahly, who dropped points against ENPPI, will next face Ceramica Cleopatra on Friday evening at Cairo International Stadium in the seventh round of the domestic league.

The draw against Enppi means Al Ahly have now collected just six points from their opening five matches, sitting a lowly 15th in the standings.

It marks one of Al Ahly’s worst league starts in their history: just one win, three draws, and one defeat from their first five fixtures, with a bye in one of the opening rounds.
