Egypt and Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy has suffered a personal tragedy after his father tragically passed away in a car accident today.
The incident came as a shocking and sudden piece of news, with the player was not with his father at the time of the accident.
The timing of the tragedy comes as El Shenawy, 36, is already enduring a difficult period with Al Ahly. The veteran shot-stopper missed the club’s opening two fixtures in the Nile Egyptian League — a 2-2 draw against Modern Sport and a 4-1 victory over Pharco in the second round, due to technical decision from the Spanish head coach Jose Riveiro.
Since joining Al Ahly in 2016, El Shenawy has been a cornerstone of the team, making 331 appearances for the Red Devils.
