As the fallout continues over the postponed title-deciding match between Al-Ahly Tripoli and Al-Hilal, originally scheduled for Sunday evening in the final round of the Libyan Premier League Title Playoff, both clubs have released official statements outlining their positions on resolving the dispute.
In their statement, Al-Ahly Tripoli described the circumstances surrounding the postponement as “regrettable developments” accompanied by “fabricated pretexts and flimsy excuses that could easily be resolved by those willing to do so.”
The club’s board announced an immediate initiative to cover all expenses required to ensure the match goes ahead, including broadcasting costs, VAR technology fees, stadium rental, hotels, accommodation, and transportation.
Al-Ahly Tripoli’s statement also carried a strong rebuke, saying:
“What is happening is not just poor organisation or failure, and perhaps a destructive conspiracy against fair competition and sportsmanship. Above all, it is a blatant, deliberate, and serious insult to the reputation of our country abroad, especially with the repetition of such shameful organisational lapses—whether intentional or unintentional.”
The club confirmed its players would remain at the stadium until the match is played and called on Al-Hilal to accept the offer to remove “any excuses.” They added that if the rival club refused, it should formally withdraw, allowing the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) to apply the relevant laws immediately. Al-Ahly Tripoli placed full legal, moral, and historical responsibility on the opposing side for any delays or consequences.
In their own statement, Al-Hilal declared solidarity with Al-Ahly Tripoli’s initiative, agreeing to share the financial costs necessary to resolve the crisis.
Al-Hilal expressed gratitude, stating:
“We thank Al-Ahly Tripoli for the initiative, which is clear evidence of high sportsmanship and fair competition. We are brothers, and good relations are what last.”
The club urged the LFF’s Executive Office to make a swift decision regarding the rescheduling of the match.
