Al Ahly goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir has clarified that securing qualification to the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League was the primary objective, following the team’s goalless draw against Algeria’s JS Kabylie.
Al Ahly played out a 0–0 draw with JS Kabylie in the fifth round of the CAF Champions League group stage, in a match dominated by defensive discipline from the Egyptian champions.
Speaking through the club’s official channels, Shobeir said:
“We delivered a good match defensively. We always aim to win every game we play, but the most important thing is that we achieved qualification, which is the main goal.”
He added:
“We are going through a very demanding period due to the congested schedule and frequent travel, which is extremely exhausting. Unfortunately, we are also dealing with several injuries, such as Zizo and Trezeguet.”
Al Ahly officially booked their place in the CAF Champions League quarterfinals thanks to the draw against JS Kabylie, combined with Morocco’s AS FAR victory over Tanzania’s Young Africans.
Following the result, Al Ahly raised their tally to 9 points at the top of Group B, AS FAR comes second with 8 points then Young Africans with 5 points, while JS Kabylie remain bottom of the group with 3 points.
