Amid dispute with Al Ahly, MBC suspends TV presenter’s program

Al Ahly‘s legal advisor, Mohamed Othman, announced that television network MBC has suspended the program of veteran Egyptian broadcaster Medhat Shalaby and referred him for investigation.

The decision came after Al Ahly filed an official complaint against Shalaby and his show, aired on MBC Masr 2, with Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation. In addition, club president Mahmoud El Khatib submitted a legal memorandum to the Attorney General, accusing Shalaby of spreading false information and violating media codes.

Reasons for the dispute between Al Ahly and Medhat Shalaby:

During his program, Shalaby alleged that Al Ahly had suffered significant financial losses under El Khatib’s presidency, specifically pointing to supposed payouts related to the termination of coaches Marcel Koller and José Ribeiro. He also claimed that El Khatib “failed” to secure a U.S. visa, preventing him from accompanying the team to the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.

The matter is now under review, with MBC confirming its commitment to conduct an internal investigation into the case.
