Al Ahly part ways with Spanish coach Jose Riveiro after short spell

Egyptian giants Al Ahly have officially announced the departure of their Spanish head coach, Jose Riveiro, following a series of disappointing results.

In a statement released on Sunday, the club confirmed that the mutual termination of Riveiro’s contract came after a meeting of the Planning Committee, attended by club president Mahmoud El Khatib and sporting director Mohamed Youssef.

The discussions, which lasted several hours, reviewed reports submitted by both the sporting director and the coach. Based on these evaluations, the committee decided to end the partnership with Riveiro.

Al Ahly thanked Ribeiro and his staff for their efforts since taking charge in late May, acknowledging his hard work but stressing that results did not meet the club’s ambitions.

The committee emphasized its appreciation for the coach’s commitment during his short tenure but underlined that the team must aim higher to satisfy its fans domestically and in continental competitions.

Riveiro’s final match in charge came on Saturday, when Al Ahly suffered their first league defeat of the season, losing 2-0 to Pyramids at Al Salam Stadium. After four matches in the Nile Egyptian League, the defending champions have collected just five points, dropping to 12th place in the table.

Since his appointment, Riveiro managed seven matches across the Nile Egyptian League and the FIFA Club World Cup, recording only one victory, with four draws and two defeats.

Al Ahly confirmed that the Planning Committee will continue its meetings to finalize the structure of the new coaching staff that will lead the team in the next phase.
