Al Ahly have officially announced the signing of Angolan striker Yelsin Camões on loan until the end of the current season, with an option to make the move permanent. Pan-Africa Football previously reported that the move was imminent after Hungarian forward Nejc Gradišar was sent out on loan to make room for the acquisition.
Camões becomes Al Ahly’s sixth signing of the winter transfer window, following the arrivals of Marwan Othman, Ahmed Eid, Amr El Gazzar, Youssef Belammari, and Hadi Riad, as the club continues to strengthen its squad for the second half of the season.
The 26-year-old forward was born in Angola and moved to Portugal at a young age, where he developed his career in the youth systems of Sporting CP, Marítimo, and Clube Desportivo Nacional. He later progressed to Marítimo’s second team before spells with União de Almeirim and Alverca B, continuing his development in Portuguese football.
Camões then took his career abroad, joining Swedish side Skellefteå, before moving to Brage, where he spent two seasons. All of his early transfers were completed on free deals, until he made a move to Norwegian club Tromsø in February last year for a reported fee of €250,000.
Although Camões has featured only once in the current season without scoring, his performances last campaign were impressive. He made 29 appearances, scoring 17 goals and providing 7 assists, finishing sixth in the Norwegian league’s top scorers list with 13 goals.
Al Ahly will be hoping the Angolan striker can rediscover that form and add attacking firepower as the club targets success on all fronts for the remainder of the season.
Al Ahly announced this deal after securing a positive draw on Saturday against Young Africans in the fourth round of the CAF Champions League group stage. The Red Devils picked up one point from the encounter, which was enough to keep them top of Group B with 8 points, as they continue to hold a strong position in the race for qualification to the knockout stage.
