Al Ahly suffer comeback defeat to Tala’ea El Gaish and exit League Cup
Al Ahly saw their early advantage slip away as they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Tala’ea El Gaish, bringing their 2025–26 Egyptian League Cup (Egypt Capital Cup) campaign to an end.
Despite taking the lead, the Red Devils endured their fourth loss in the League Cup, as Tala’ea El Gaish completed a comeback to secure all three points.
Al Ahly opened the scoring in the 43rd minute of the first half through Nejc Gradisar, who produced a brilliant trivela finish to give his side the advantage.
However, Mohamed Atef restored parity for Tala’ea El Gaish in the 58th minute with an outstanding individual effort and a shot into the corner.
The match then turned completely in Tala’ea El Gaish’s favor when they executed a perfect counter-attack, finished off by Fares Hatem in the 79th minute to seal the victory.
As a result, Al Ahly’s tally remained frozen at six points, forcing them to exit the League Cup in sixth place in their group. Meanwhile, Tala’ea El Gaish moved up to 13 points at the top of Group A.
