Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal has officially confirmed the signing of Nigerian women’s national team striker Asisat Oshoala on a two-year contract.
The move was finalized on Monday after the 30-year-old striker successfully passed a routine medical examination in Riyadh.
Oshoala joins the Saudi Women’s Premier League side after a brief but impactful stint with National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Bay FC, which she joined for their inaugural season.
Al Hilal has expressed immense excitement over the acquisition of one of the world’s most prolific forwards. In their official announcement on social media, the club stated:
“Welcome Asisat Oshoala. Countless achievements, and more to come.”
The six-time African Player of the Year netted seven goals in her first season for Bay FC. She also scored the club’s first-ever goal and a key playoff goal in their debut campaign.
The move marks a new chapter in Oshoala’s illustrious career, which has seen her play for some of the biggest clubs in Europe and Asia.
She previously had a trophy-laden spell with Barcelona Femeni, where she won two UEFA Women’s Champions League titles and five Liga F titles. The striker also played in England for both Liverpool and Arsenal, and in China for Dalian Quanjian, showcasing her ability to succeed in different leagues and continents.
Oshoala has now joined fellow Super Falcons stars Ashleigh Plumptre and Francisca Ordega in the oil-rich kingdom.
