Al Hilal inspects war-damaged stadium in Omdurman

Sudanese side Al Hilal has begun inspecting the damaged Al Hilal Stadium in Omdurman due to the Sudanese civil war.

The war in the Northeast African nation forced the club to play abroad and abandon their stadium, which is now in ruins.

Recent gains by the Sudanese army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, enabled the club to assess the current state of the Al Hilal Stadium. A delegation led by Al Hilal manager Abdul Moahimen Alamin visited the stadium for the first time since the civil war broke out in 2023.

The stadium, hotel, and administrative offices are damaged. The playing pitch is also in poor condition. Broken chairs, windows, and doors were also destroyed due to the war.

Alamin reaffirmed that the club will reconstruct the stadium once peace and security return to the country.

The CAF-accredited stadium can hold 25,000 spectators and was constructed in 1968.

Nonetheless, it underwent a major facelift in 2018. Due to the civil war, Al Hilal played the 2024/25 league season in the Mauritanian Division, where they finished first.
