Al-Hilal Omdurman takes another step closer to Mauritania Super D1 title with comeback victory

Al-Hilal Omdurman are getting closer to the title in their adopted league for the 2024-25 season, Mauritania’s Super D1, following a 2-1 victory over Nouakchott Kings on Thursday.

Mohamed Sarr’s header from a corner kick gave Nouakchott Kings the lead inside the opening two minutes but Hilal produced a strong response to battle back for the victory. Hilal forward Yaser Mozamil was fouled in the penalty area close to halftime, allowing captain Mohamed Abdelrahman to equalize with a spot kick.

Early in the second half, it was Mozamil who put Hilal into the lead. In the 51st minute, Jean Claude Girumugisha created space on the left wing and the Burundian picked out Mozamil at the far post with a curling cross. The Sudan national team forward met the ball with a powerful header for the match winner.

Hilal now lead defending champions FC Nouadhibou by four points, still possessing a game in hand. Four matches remain for Hilal while Nouadhibou only have three games left to close the gap as much as they can. Hilal will be in action again on Sunday against midtable side Pompiers.
