Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman have escalated their legal battle at Confederation of African Football (CAF), submitting an urgent appeal to the Appeals Committee on Friday evening. The club is demanding the postponement of the upcoming Champions League semifinal clash between RS Berkane and AS FAR, scheduled for Saturday.
Al Hilal backed their request by citing four articles from CAF’s disciplinary regulations, arguing that proceeding with the match could cause significant harm to the club—particularly if a ruling on their complaint is later decided in their favor.
The Sudanese side has officially accused RS Berkane of fielding an ineligible player during their CAF Champions League quarter-final encounter.
Al Hilal were eliminated from the tournament following a 1-1 draw in Morocco and a 1-0 defeat in the return leg, resulting in a 2-1 aggregate loss. However, the club insists that the outcome may have been affected by the alleged violation.
Earlier today, a key hearing took place at CAF headquarters, attended by Al Hilal’s Secretary General Dr. Hassan Ali Issa and the club’s legal representative, Pedro. The session reportedly witnessed intense exchanges between the involved parties.
Al Hilal Omdurman’s legal team presented multiple objections, outlined specific conditions, and submitted urgent requests regarding the case. Following these discussions, CAF decided to adjourn the session until tomorrow, when a final verdict is expected to be issued.
With tensions rising, all eyes should be now on CAF’s Appeals Committee as it prepares to deliver a decisive ruling that could have significant implications—not only for Al Hilal Omdurman and RS Berkane, but also for the credibility of continental competitions.
The outcome may determine whether further disciplinary measures are taken or if the competition’s results remain unchanged.
