Al Ittihad’s Doumbia undergoes ACL surgery in France after King Cup injury

Mahamadou Doumbia, Malian midfielder of Al Ittihad Saudi Arabia, has successfully undergone anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery in France following his recent injury.

Doumbia suffered the serious setback during Ittihad’s clash against Al-Kholood in the semi-finals of the King Cup.

The Saudi club confirmed via its official channels that the player underwent ACL reconstruction surgery in the city of Lyon.

According to the statement, Doumbia will remain in Lyon for an initial two-week recovery phase, where he will follow a specialized rehabilitation program under the supervision of the surgical team and the club’s medical staff before progressing to the next stages of his recovery.

On the pitch, Ittihad were eliminated from the competition in dramatic fashion. Despite taking the lead twice during the match, they were held to a 2-2 draw after extra time, before losing 5-4 on penalties to Al-Kholood.

With that result, Al-Kholood advanced to the final, where they will face Al-Hilal, while Ittihad’s title defense came to an end.
