Egyptian League continued its round 20 as Al Ittihad Alexandria secured a valuable 2-0 victory over Ghazl El Mahalla on Monday evening at Alexandria Stadium.
The home side broke the deadlock in the 56th minute through Abubakar Liday, who capitalized on a pass from Fadi Farid before firing a shot past the Ghazl El Mahalla goalkeeper.
The visitors’ situation became even more complicated in the 63rd minute when Mahmoud Magdy was shown a red card after receiving his second yellow, leaving Ghazl El Mahalla with ten men for the remainder of the match.
Al Ittihad continued to press and sealed the win late in the game. In the 88th minute, Yousry Wahid reacted quickest inside the box, following up on a strike from Afsha that rebounded off a Ghazl El Mahalla defender, smashing the ball into the back of the net to double the lead.
With this victory, Al Ittihad Alexandria move up to 20 points, sitting 14th in the Egyptian League table. Meanwhile, Ghazl El Mahalla remain on 18 points in 15th place.
In another league fixture, Ismailia Electricity claimed a 2-0 win over Pharco.
Benjamin Bernard Boateng opened the scoring in the 19th minute from the penalty spot, giving his side an advantage. Deep into stoppage time, Ali Sulieman added a second goal in the 90+1 minute to secure all three points.
With this victory, Ismailia Electricity climb to 19th place in the league standings with 16 points,while Pharco drop to the 20th place with 14 points.
