Al-Merrikh SC new signing Salima: ‘Ronaldo’s anger inspires me’

Sudanese giants Al-Merrikh SC completed the signing of Malawi Super League top scorer Chikumbutso Salima on a long-term contract last week. The team’s media sat down with their new acquisition in a question-and-answer session to get to know him better. Here are the excerpts:

Favourite team?

Liverpool FC. I started supporting this team when I was young. I just like their style. This is my best team.

Favourite player?

Kylian Mbappe. I like him because of his skill and speed.

Role model?

Cristiano Ronaldo. I have been watching his videos and games. He is very good. His anger inspires me a lot, so I just like him.

My best moment?

Signing for this club is my best moment. I have always been dreaming of going outside Malawi, so this is the best moment for me.

Best goal?

When I was playing for the [Bullets] reserve side against FOMO FC. I scored a beautiful goal. I don’t think I have ever scored a goal like that since I started playing football.

Number 7

Memorable match?

Match against Civo Service United I scored a hat-trick. This was my first time scoring a hat-trick, so this was my best moment and I love that.

Playing style?

My playing style is speed and I like dribbling.

If not a footballer?

I would be a coach because I like football so much.

Favourite movie?

I don’t like watching movies. I like listening to music

Dream destination?

I want to visit Spain. This is a beautiful country, and I like the way it looks.
